MaryArt
Mary is a native of Indiana and has been painting since she was a child. She majored in commercial art and worked for a number of years as a graphic artist for a South Bend newspaper, a local printer, and a local publisher. She has also done freelance work, including line art for numerous books.
In the last decade, Mary has focused more on free-flowing, abstract and impressionistic painting using acrylics. Her work, which typically portrays people interrelating in a country setting, is marked by a use of vivid colors and a style reminiscent of Chagall, Van Gogh and Frank Auerbach. Along with these artists, Mary counts Pieter Brueghel the Elder as a major influence. She uses soft, round, relentless brushstrokes to produce images that elicit deep, complex emotions.
Most typically her subject matter involves people interacting in a "close to nature" setting. She has always felt a call to bring out the beauty and deeper meaning of ordinary life situations.
Mary's work has been shown in various galleries and institutions across Indiana and Greenleaf Gallery is honored to showcase her work here in Illinois. Each piece is original, matted and framed and subject to prior sale. Please call us at 847.948.7689 for more information or to order at new lower prices.
